We sell mid-century handmade glass designs from Czechoslovakia; iconic vintage items curated in a refreshingly artistic aesthetic.
Some of the defining features of glassmakers from the Železná Ruda glassworks are the bubbly, liquid like outlines complementing the inner and outer layers of their products; this softly shaped mid 1960’s maroon ashtray is no exception.
The 1960's can be seen as a turning point in modern artistic development. Not only did the changing political climate bring along developments in visual art and music; the 1960's also saw the advent of astonishing modern glasswork. Although tucked behind the Iron Curtain, glass makers in Czechoslovakia seized the opportunity to reflect the modern shapes of the mid-century period into their glass designs. This brought about a wide and diverse array of unique handmade glassware with a truly timeless touch.
